Two-Step Authentication for Hotmail accounts

Similar to Gmail, Facebook, the 2-step verification security also helps Microsoft account (account also known as Outlook, Hotmail) safest. This is a setting you should not ignore after registering a Microsoft account. This makes the attacker more difficult to login using your identity, even if they have your password. Whenever you login from a device that is not trusted, you will be prompted to enter a security code.

The first thing you need to do before you turn on the two step authentication for hotmail accounts is add to the phone number verify or alternate email account. Check out this guide: Add phone numbers & email preventive  for Microsoft Account (Outlook/Hotmail). Then follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Click your profile image in the upper-right corner of the inbox, choose "view acount". Or you visit following this link  :

Step 2: Select the tab "Security & Privacy" in the menu bar and then select "More security settings"

Step 3: If You may not be asked to verify your identity, go to step 4. If You may be asked to verify your identity. You enter your phone or email. Now, a Microsoft security code will be sent to your phone or to your email. 

You enter a code to the box Code ---> click "submit"

Step 4: Then, Scroll down under, choose "Set up two-step verification", Click "next"


Step 5: You have three choices verify your identity:
- An app:
- A phone number
- An alternate email address
Choose one of the three, follow the instructions and click "next"

Step 6: Because you're accessing sensitive info, you need to verify your password.
Enter password and click "sign in"

Done. You've finished two step authentication for hotmail accounts!
